Blog #1

*** Thoughts wrote as reading the section.

(page 3) Write other’s ideas down. I think that it can’t be done correctly because we are not the ones that are thinking the “idea”. When we do infer what the person is trying to get across we sometimes will assume what they think and will all have different ideas and could think it means something totally different then what the write was trying to get across. I think this is probably what reporters do when they get yelled at for write untrue facts, they put words in other people’s mouths so they can get there story to sound even more plausible.

(page 10) I never thought of a “Robotic” way of writing but the book went on to talk about how it isn’t a characteristic of this writing style. Is there a Robotic way of writing? (I thought this to myself) Yes, the 5 paragraph essay. If it was such a bad way to write an essay then why do teacher and such teach it to us in the fist place?

(chapter 1) It would be good if you keep repeating the They Say because it will help them and the writer me and you stay on track with what is being wrote about.

Personally I think it’s hard to find out what’s the main idea of another’s paper, let alone what mine might be.

I agree that we need to start using bigger words that are in our vocabulary, not “spoke” or “said”. But sometimes it is hard to think of the word that we want to say and just put in a word like “talked”.

Its weird how in chapter 3 it says that although summarizing it is the best, like said in the previous chapter, putting quotes in papers is the best. This book is written by the same people the whole time and first they are right then they say I am wrong and now I am right. Confusing!!

*So far I think this book will be a big help to my writing and overall English skills hopefully.
